Executive Program
The OPSC co-ordinates an Executive Program where members of the Senior Executive Service (SES) and Senior Officers move to a position at a similar level for a period of approximately six months.
The aim is build a strong leadership culture in the Queensland public service and to develop a mobile and capable group of senior officers who can be deployed across government to achieve government priorities. The program develops skills and versatility and contributes to the Smart State culture within government.
Each year, the program is evaluated and used to improve the program in the following year. In past years, participants have found the program to be an enriching experience both personally and for their home agencies.
First conducted in 2002, the mobility program continues to:
- create an awareness around whole-of-government issues
- expand participants' understanding of the challenges and goals of the business of government
- promote new ideas, perspectives and approaches
- provide the impetus to empower teams and workgroups in agencies
- afford leadership experience to participants in a different organisation and culture.
The home agency meets salary and related costs during a placement and any costs of learning and development activities undertaken by their participants.
In 2007, 16 senior executives and 21 senior officers from 24 agencies participated in the program.
The next program is expected to commence in February / March 2008.
All enquiries should be directed to the OPSC Contacts.
