Directives

About directives made under the Public Service Act 1996.

Directives are made under section 34 of the Public Service Act 1996 and detail the mandatory principles to be adhered to by Queensland Government departments in a range of workforce management areas. The underpinning philosophy of the Directives is that they contain minimum process requirements.

Chief Executives are free to decide, through their own processes, how best to meet these mandatory principles, thus enabling them to develop departmental procedures that suit their individual business and service delivery needs.

Section 34 of the Public Service Act 1996 provides for the Public Service Commissioner to issue Directives about matters relating to the functions of the Public Service Commissioner (see s33 of the Act), matters required elsewhere under the Act and about overall employment conditions for senior executives, senior officers or public service officers on contract whose remuneration is equal to or higher than the remuneration payable to a senior officer. The Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations may issue Directives about remuneration and conditions of employment for persons other than senior executives and senior officers.

Directives issued by the Public Service Commission and the Minister for State Development, Employment and Industrial Relations.

Directives are administered by either the Public Service Commission (PSC) or the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations (DEIR). Please note that any directives administered by DEIR will link to the DEIR web site.

For easy reference, the directives have been grouped and sorted into two tables:
