Chief Executive Officers' responsibilities
- To develop and submit to the Public Service Commissioner for approval an EEO management plan that will enable target group members to:
- compete for recruitment, selection, promotion and transfer in the agency and within other aencies; and
- pursue careers in the agency and in other agencies as effectively as non target members; and
- eliminate unlawful discrimination by the agency or its employees against target group members with respect to employment matters.
- To implement their approved EEO Management Plan;
- To establish procedures to monitor compliance with requirements under the Act;
- To provide the Public Service Commissioner with an annual report on actions taken to comply with requirements under the Act.
The Equal Opportunity in Public Employment Act 1992, places responsibility for employment equity with the Chief Executive Officer of each agency. Under the Act, the Chief Executive and their agency have the following responsibilities:

The role of the Public Service Commissioner and the Office of the Public Service Commissioner (OPSC)
- Providing advice to public sector agencies on their responsibilities regarding Equal Employment Opportunity;
- Administration of the EEO planning and reporting framework;
- Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of employment equity across the sector; and
- Reporting on progress and promoting the achievement of employment equity goals across the sector to government through the Public Service Commissioner's Annual Report and briefings to the Premier and Government.
The OPSC supports the Public Service Commissioner in the administration of the Equal Opportunity in Public Employment Act 1992.
